NCAA Marketing

One of the main components that the NCAA deals with is marketing. Their marketing strategy has to target the right markets, and appeal to the people in such a way that will create interest. Market segmentation is something the NCAA really strives to develop and reach out to. Different markets that they reach out to are youth boys and girls, high school and college male and female, and adult fans men and women. There are a number of ways that the ncaa goes about marketing their basketball and football to these market segments.
One way that a school markets themselves is through merchandising. A schools merchandise will be sought after for a few reasons; 1. because the consumers are fans of the school and 2. because certain people like the schools colors, mascot, or name. There are a lot of different colleges and there are fans for every team. Also, EAsports video games produce ncaa baseball, basketball, and football games for fans of all ages. I'd say most of these games are played by males ages 14-25. Although in the games the names of players and coaches cannot be released due to collegiate rules, the numbers are always correct with the actual player and the games are usually a huge hit.
Other ways that college basketball and football programs become succesful in marketing is through the use of promotions, youth clinics, ncaa publications, and media and events. All of these forms of marketing are great ways to get the schools name out there, their statement about the season, and a preview of the team for fans.
